Boyan Slat: "How Could We?"
At just 16 years old, Boyan Slat went scuba diving and noticed there was more plastic than fish in parts of the ocean.
Most people accepted it as "just the way things are." He didn't.
Instead of asking, "Why is nobody fixing this?" he asked, "How could we?"
That question led him to found The Ocean Cleanup, an organization developing technologies to remove plastic from rivers and oceans around the world.
He didn't wait until he was older. He started with curiosity, research, prototypes, mistakes, and determination.
Like every Quest in this book, his journey began with a question.
Be the Change You Wish to See
"Be the change you wish to see in the world."
Think about something that frustrates you or feels unfair. Instead of wishing someone else would fix it, ask yourself:
Remember, every meaningful change starts with someone deciding to begin.

Objective: design one small action that could genuinely improve someone else's life.
Think about your community
What frustrates you? What problem keeps showing up? Now ask:
- Who is affected?
- Why does this problem exist?
- What small action could I take this week?
- Who might help me?
Don't aim to solve everything
Aim to improve one small piece. Then try it. Notice what happens. Adjust. Keep going. Real changemakers build, test, improve, and repeat.
🔥 Reflecting Around the Fire
Changemakers don't begin with perfect answers. They begin by noticing a problem that others have learned to ignore. Then they choose to do something about it.
You don't need permission to care. You don't need to have everything figured out. You simply need to begin.

Awareness Isn't the Same as Action
Not every movement online creates real change. Posting, liking, and sharing can spread awareness. But awareness isn't the same as action.
Before you click "Share," ask yourself:
- 1 Is this information accurate?
- 2 Did I verify it?
- 3 Am I helping — or just reacting?
- 4 What can I do offline that supports this cause?
Technology is an incredible tool. Use it to create real-world impact, not just digital noise.

You discovered that real change doesn't begin with having all the answers. It begins with caring enough to ask better questions, noticing what isn't working, and having the courage to try something different.
Changemakers don't wait for permission. They don't wait until they're older, smarter, richer, or "ready." They take one thoughtful step, learn from what happens, and keep going.
Every Quest you've completed has been preparing you for this one. You learned to think for yourself. You found your voice. You explored who you are becoming. You practiced leading, connecting, questioning, creating, and understanding others.
Now it's your turn to leave the world a little better than you found it. Your ripple starts here.
